This was a short, quick read, and a fun introduction to the Secret Agent series.

When I read the description I thought it was a great idea for a story. A world where all the secret agents have been exposed by a hacker, forcing them into hiding. These days, with all the data leaks giving out peoples personal information, I can totally see that happening.

This story is about a woman we can all relate to, who works in a boring job that doesn't satisfy her. When all the secret agents are forced into hiding, she sees an opportunity and takes it. And so begins a funny, witty account of how a woman at the bottom of the totem pole in the insurance industry became a secret agent.

This is a short story, and I don't want to give too much away. Stylistically, the story works well, and the character's voice is naive and witty, which works well.

Her first mission was funny, and I totally related to it. I won't say why, because that would be a spoiler, but if I had been mauve, I'm pretty sure that is exactly what my first mission would look like!

There were some great laugh out loud lines I highlighted to include in my review, but I decided not to because that might spoil them for you.

Special Agent MauveOrigins edition by JB Trepagnier Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Okay, I have no bloody idea what a potato gun is but now I want to buy one for myself for the lolz. In all seriousness, this short novel is a breath of fresh air where it takes learning how to become a secret agent when you are talentless to a fun new level.

We never know the name of the protagonist (and don't even find out our hero of sorts is a woman until the last third of the story), but we root for her when she grows fed up with her boring caller job at an insurance claims company and decides for no real reason whatsoever to spend her meagre life savings to take an online secret agent course from some kind of diploma mill. She is in poor shape, so she watches Tae Bo youtube videos and buys a potato gun to learn how to use a firearm granting her the status of enemy #1 of the neighborhood's pigeon population.

Little does she know that after discovering a secret agent agency was hacked, the fake company's phone was posted online and she decided to ask for a job opening. Much to her glee, they answer her back a few weeks later and offer to send her to boot camp... and then off to her first mission.

Does she have the talent to become a secret agent or will she get fired? Very funny short story indeed!
An incredibly funny story about becoming a secret agent by taking online classes. It is at times snarky and at times sincere, but always hilarious and engaging. The writing style keeps the story moving along, and it's really short and easy to get through. I like things like this that don't take themselves too seriously and can just be fun for the sake of it.

Great job!
Even juvenile readers would find the story unbelievable. The kitchy color theme is over done. A real disappointment. The best part was it was a very short read.
Ever consider being a special agent? Online courses only teach you so much and when Special Agent Mauve learns there's more to it than Taebo, she's in for a rude awakening.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is a captivating romance. The characters are intriguing, engaging, and well developed. I liked reading this book.
This is a solid, short, read about a not-exactly-qualified woman becoming a spy. It's fun, well written, and quite easy to read. The only real downside is that there isn't much in the way of a plot, as the story is more about introducing the character. The first part of the story details how our protagonist ended up becoming a secret agent, and the second part is about a disastrous first mission, but both feel more like the first few chapters of a longer book. As a free short story, however, it works as a way to get the reader interested in other works by the author.
This is a really short read, but I think it is a great way for readers to get to know the author's writing style, which is good and the story was interesting and a bit light hearted. When a woman decided to become a special secret agent with no experience, readers get to follow along for fun and adventure. Good job on a quick read.
